Firstly, we have the rain-fed research that have been started to address water scarcity threatening the world by 2030. The risk of renewable energy depletion as well has been considered and steps have been put in place by the UAE to build the first nuclear reactor in the GCC region in order to acquire clean energy generation.
Recently the monthly Emirati cabinet meeting was held at this nuclear reactor project site graced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. A clear message was echoed through the meeting of the UAE moving forward to achieve its vision and the national program launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan –President of UAE in 2005.
The concept and layout of this critical project was crystallized by Emiratishands with a benefit of having the government setting up a state of art training center inside the plant.It is essential to note that the main purpose of the plant is not only to consolidate modern science but to also allow the national crew to acquire required skills.
Today outputs of that approach return with an elite of UAE’s most promising engineers and technicians .His Highness, Prime Minister referred to this saying , “We are proud of our young nuclear crew in the largest project of its kind worldwide, our national staff are the main factorin the comingUAE’s achievements”
This world’s largest nuclear power plant is expected to feed some of UAE’s power needs and become part of the countryvision 2050 regardingclean energy sources. This puts UAE on the limelight of being one of the first countries presenting real efforts to reduce dependence oil and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
UAE is leading the regional efforts in civil use of nuclear energy. Barakah project employs around 1900 experts, engineers and technicians, with the local forming 60% of workers capacity and females presenting20% of the total workforce in the project. The staff will reach 2500 workers in 2020which means that will provide efficient and safe operating of four more stations including the present project.
The positive effects of such giant critical projects reach a various strategic dimensions which includes possession of a clean and safe energy sources for state development and prosperity. In addition to this is acquisition of advanced knowledge and education in sensitive technologies.Remember the progress of nations nowadays is measured by their knowledge and how much they are adding to human civilization.
It is worth mentioning that a desire to develop is not enough for a nation to rise and advance .Rather having a solid leadership and vision as well that believes in the capabilities of its people. This essential feature was quoted when His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said ” The UAE has placed its hopes in the young generation armed with knowledge and modern science”.
